Department of Anaesthesia, GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Gotri, Vadodara is one of the few departments in Gujarat where USG guided peripheral nerve blocks are taught and practiced routinely. Their team of ‘Pain Consultants’ provide chronic pain management services by administering IITV guided pain blocks e.g. facet joint block. Patients with difficult airway are managed using newer airway adjuncts like video laryngoscope and fibreoptic bronchoscope.
They also provide CPR training to UGs, PGs, Nursing staff and laymen at regular intervals.
GMERS Medical College, Gotri, Vadodara is the first Medical College in Vadodara to provide Excimer Lamp treatment for patients of vitiligo and psoriasis. The department is equipped with dermoscope, dermapen, fractional CO2 laser- Q switch ND-YAG, Intense pulsed light (IPL), radiofrequency cautery, electrocautery, and iontophoresis machine.
Speciality Clinics: It runs Acne Clinic on Monday, Psoriasis and Hansen’s Clinic on Tuesday, Autoimmune diseases, Connective tissue disorders, Vesiculobullous diseases Clinics on Wednesday, STD Clinic on Thursday and Vitiligo and Pigmentary disease Clinic on Friday.
The department boasts to be the first and currently the only Medical College performing Sialendoscopy (endoscopic surgery for salivary gland) in the State of Gujarat. The Consultants are specialised in phonosurgery, skull base surgery, and sleep apnoea surgery.
The department played a critical role in managing COVID-associated mucormycosis.
Laboratory Services, GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Gotri, Vadodara (LSGMERSMCGV) comprising of medical laboratories run by Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pathology, are committed to good laboratory practice. LSGMERSMCGV was awarded Certificate of Accreditation by ‘National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratory (NABL)’ on 08/09/2021.
The scope for accreditation for the Department of Biochemistry included s. Glucose, Urea, Creatinine, Total bilirubin, Direct bilirubin, AST, ALT, ALP, Total protein, Albumin, Total cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C, LDH, Amylase, Uric acid, Sodium, Potassium and Chloride. Tests s. glucose, Creatinine, HDL-C, LDL-C, LDH and Amylase were removed from the scope during desktop surveillance in 2024 due to change in equipment resulting in change in examination method.
Tests under scope of accreditation of Department of Microbiology include identification of bacteria and AFB for TB and Nocardia, Stool examination, s. ASO, CRP, RA, slide Widal, RPR, HBsAg, Anti-HIV antibody and Sars-CoV-2 RNA testing by PCR.
Tests under scope of accreditation of Department of Pathology include CBC, Peripheral Smear, AEC, Malarial Parasites, Reticulocyte Count, ESR, Urine routine and microscopy, Body fluid examination, Semen examination, Histopathology, and Cytopathology [except CSF and urine (in 2025)].
The department endeavours to achieve highest standards of clinical care in the field of women’s health through efficient health care services, health education, research and policy making.
The department thrives to protect the fundamental right to reproductive health for all woman, in accordance with the vision of the National Health Mission of India. The Laqshya certified Labour Room, Maternity OT and Midwife Led Care Unit are the testimonies of Respectful Maternity Care. Here, the experience of child birth becomes a memory to cherish for a woman for the lifetime.
Various gynecological surgeries offered in the state of the art modular Operation Theatre starting from intricate vaginal surgeries to various endoscopic surgeries reflect the surgical expertise of the faculties in the department. The scope of clinical care includes counselling, contraceptive services, adolescence care, reproductive care, infertility treatment, High Risk Pregnancy treatment, sonography services, menopausal care and gynaecological oncology treatment.
The department is a state of the art facility fully equipped to meet the highest standards of patient care and is committed to provide excellence in medical education and research. The department caters to the general population, and gives clinical care services including OPD, IPD, surgical interventions, emergency services and community outreach programs.
Ophthalmology OPD is furnished with the modern diagnostic and therapeutic instruments like Autorefractometer, A scan, B scan, UBM, Specular microscope, NCT, OCT, FFA, C3R machine, SLT machine besides the regular devices. The Modular Ophthalmology OT houses advanced surgical microscopes, phacoemulsification and laser equipment.
Subspeciality clinics: offered by the department include Refraction and general ophthalmology, Glaucoma clinic, Retina services, Paediatric ophthalmology and squint, Cornea and Eye bank.
Camps: The department regularly conducts eye camps, screening programme for children, public awareness initiatives on preventable Blindness and Eye Donation drives.

Their team of skilled Orthopaedic Surgeons and Specialists offer advanced treatments, from minimally invasive spine procedures to total joint replacements, revision joint replacement and patient specific implants.
Orthopedic Surgeons are well trained in Orthopedic sub specialities like Joint Preservation, Joint Reconstruction, Advanced Microscopic Spinal procedures, Deformity Correction, Complex Trauma in and around the Hip and Knee and Key Hole Surgeries. They are committed to restoring mobility, reducing pain, and improving quality of life with state-of-the-art technology and compassionate care.

The department provides comprehensive care to improve physical function, manage pain, and promote overall health. It offer services for musculoskeletal issues like back pain, arthritis, and sports injuries, as well as neurological rehabilitation for conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and spinal cord injuries.
Other areas include cardiopulmonary rehabilitation for heart and lung conditions, women’s health for pregnancy-related issues and pelvic floor dysfunctions, pediatric physiotherapy for developmental delays in children, and geriatric care for age-related conditions like osteoporosis and fall prevention. Techniques used include manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, electrotherapy (e.g., TENS), interferential therapy (IFT) and ultrasound.

The Department of Psychiatry provides comprehensive mental health services, education, and research. The team of experienced psychiatrists, psychologists deliver patient-centered care, emphasizing dignity, respect, and compassion. They offer outpatient and inpatient services, emergency care, and specialized clinics for various mental health conditions.
The department has consistently earned recognition at National and International level through various prizes and delivering prestigious talks.
The Respiratory Medicine Department at GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Gotri is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with respiratory conditions. The department boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a spacious ward equipped with approximately 50 beds and a fully equipped Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with ten beds and advanced ventilators.
The department diagnoses and treats tuberculosis patients and thus contributes to Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP). The department also runs District Microscopy Center with Tuberculosis Officer (TO) and has facility of Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT – Truenat and CBNAAT) for diagnosis of tuberculosis. The department is equipped with a specialized ward for treatment of multi drug resistant Tuberculosis (MDR TB) and extensive drug resistance tuberculosis (XDR TB). Specialized cases like TB HIV are also counselled and provided treatment.
The department takes pride in its specialized bronchoscopy suite, offering services such as bronchoscopies, transbronchial and endobronchial biopsies, and thoracoscopy. Additionally, they conduct sleep studies to evaluate and manage sleep-related respiratory issues.
The department also offers pulmonary function testing, including Diffusing Capacity of the Lung for Carbon Monoxide (DLCO), to assess lung function accurately. Furthermore, they have specialized outpatient departments (OPDs) for managing asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ensuring that the patients receive tailored care for their specific needs.
The Blood Centre has license for collection, storage and processing of whole human blood and components under the licensing authority, Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). The Blood Centre adheres to strict ethical guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of both the donors and the recipients.
It serves the needs of hospitalized patients, patients undergoing surgery, trauma cases, Sickle and Thalassemia patients, and other medical conditions requiring blood transfusions.
It organizes regular blood donation drives within the medical college, encouraging medical students, interns and resident doctors to donate blood. Faculties too have taken to this noble cause by becoming regular blood donors, to name a few Dr. Hitesh Rathod (FM), Dr. Samir Rai (Surgery), Dr. Balaji Ghughare (Physiology), Dr. Tarun Desai (Orthopedics), Dr. Prashant Alwani (Orthopedics), Dr. Himanshu Chauhan (Physiology) and Dr. Prakash Dasa (Pathology).
